Synopsis for 2011

Theme: “ O filho fiel, sempre Mangueira” ( The constant son, always Mangueira).

Mangueira Samba School is paying tribute to Nelson Antonio da Silva, a songwriter and musician that demonstrated a unique style playing “cavaquinho”. He was then given the nick name Nelson Cavaquinho. Nelson Cavaquinho was introduced to Mangueira in 1932 and the love affair began. The musician showed his great passion for the school through many of his compositions that mentioned Mangueira samba School. So in 2011, the year that Nelson would’ve turned 100 years old, Mangueira samba school will honor the memory of Nelson telling his  amazing journey in life and with the school from the community of  Mangueira.

More About the Estação Primeira de Mangueira

Mangueira The Gremio Recreativo Escola de Samba Mangueira in one of the oldest and best known Samba school in Rio de Janiero. It arose out of the slums to become the first Carnival Parade Champions in 1932. With colors of pink and green they are one of the most colorful and talented Samba schools to be found. The Mangueira is always a favorite for the masses,  just like the football team Flamengo is a favorite for soccer.
